The Kyrsten Sinema Drama Shows Us Exactly Why Congressional Term Limits Are a Bad Idea
Do term limits really lead to less corruption?
Right now, two U.S. Senators are standing in the way of the agenda of their entire political party and the will of the American voters. Those two Senators, as you know, are Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Joe Manchin of West Virginia. Arizona and West Virginia are neither democratic strongholds.
Arizona is a purple state that’s slowly outgrowing its highly conservative history. West Virginia is the fourth-most Republican state in America and it’s a miracle that Joe Manchin, a Democrat, has managed to get elected to the U.S. Senate there.
The battle is unfolding over President Biden’s infrastructure package. Biden, along with most other Democrats and especially the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, wants to completely revamp American infrastructure.
Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and other party favorites want to stand firm and pass the $3.5 trillion infrastructure package that includes everything from roads to bridges, as well as some things that have been deemed “human infrastructure,” such as childcare and, most importantly, things to address the looming threat of climate change…
