It seems like forever now that people have been predicting the fall of Facebook. You all know the adage, the internet never forgets. Jumping back to 2010, 2011, and beyond, people were talking about the possible looming collapse of Facebook after each one of its changes. In a weird way it feels like we’ve all been waiting for this looming catastrophe that never came. This is especially true if you talk to any of its more disgruntled users who begrudgingly sign in every day or almost every day hoping, praying for something better.
It’s like an end-of-times religion with people running around shouting about how the world will end, as if chunks of blue and cloud were literally falling from the sky. But unlike bogus theories that the world would end in 2012 per the Mayan calendar, the Facebook theory persists, the inevitable downfall of the tech giant forever postponed another day.
Safe to say, I’ve seen enough of these proclamations to shrug them off with a smirk and a giggle, never taking them seriously. But times change and if companies can’t adapt to a rapidly changing world, they go extinct. That’s just the nature of the beast.
