I think the scariest part of this all is the fact that having this many misinformed people at the same time means, almost inherently, that Democracy must eventually come to an end. Democracy relies on an informed citizenry capable of making intelligent decisions. Without that, it'll all just crumble into a big anarchic mess until a strongman type persona takes charge and becomes the authoritarian people will be begging for. It's the Escape From Freedom, as Fromm discussed.
