I both agree and disagree with this at the exact same time. It depends on which gender you try to apply it to. I sense men are far more guilty than women (testosterone influences risk-taking behavior and leads to overconfidence, so that makes sense). Men are far worst with their overconfidence than women are. And even the men who don't want to date supermodels, the guys who just want a basic housewife or close partner and are willing to settle for whatever comes their way, don't really want to improve on themselves. A big part of it is our consumer culture. It's how we've become so enamored with bullshit. We sit around and kill 2 hours watching Netflix instead of hitting the gym. We stuff our faces with junk food instead of healthy, affordable, home-cooked meals. We blame others rather than accepting responsibility and telling ourselves we need to improve. And don't even get me started on the division of labor stuff. This is why more than 70% of divorces are initiated by women. A lot of guys out there just think their mere existence is enough for a woman to be perpetually turned on by them and to want to fuck them all day every day, while they don't so much as lift a finger.
