I agree with everything except this. A system that represents less than 20% of the population is not a democratic system (or even a Republic). I'm not for total balls-to-the-wall democracy, but I know what democratic is and isn't.

It's possible the Founders, as wonderful as many of them were (Thomas Paine and Ben Franklin for sure), they weren't perfect. Our system is wonderful, but it has some glaring problems as a result of it age.

I'm familiar with the Timothy Evans case. Late 1950s, right?

Anyways, I also abhor your system. No offense, but I'd hate to live in England. America is beautiful precisely because she is free, and if a small minority is allowed to take over the legal process at the expense of the rest of us, it's no longer free, nor is that legal process worth keeping.

Also, these people won't stop at abortion. It's not about abortion, it's about controlling women's sexuality. I know, that sounds like fluff and hubris, but it's not.

They say it's about abortion and saving babies, but it isn't. It's about controlling women's sexuality.

Before abortions became common in America, condoms were illegal because these same religious people didn't want women having sex for pleasure. The Comstock Act was in effect for about 50 years, and it banned condoms federally. When the Comstock Act was struck down by the Supreme Court in the 1930s, States started implementing their own Comstock acts.

Most people don't know this, but condoms weren't legal in the United States until 1972. The year after that, Roe Vs. Wade was decided. Five years after that, pill birth control hit. From 1873-1972, condoms were illegal on either the federal or state level.

These people aren't just against abortion. They're against all preventative measures they deem "unnatural" and "non-Christian" as anyone who remembers George W. Bush's push for abstinence-only sex-ed in schools should remember. Evangelical Christians want a theocracy, and they're close to getting it.
